About Us
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of YWCT—an OFA affiliate group—is to support the Obama administration’s national initiatives while remaining a strong voice for implementing the changes we advocated with our votes in the 2008 general election.
OBJECTIVES
A. To support President Obama’s national agenda.
- We will work to support President Obama’s national agenda however we can—through community and congressional action such as contacts with our elected officials, direct lobbying, letters to the editor, media events, house parties, discussion forums and in activities coordinated with Organizing for America.
- We will work to keep President Obama true to his promises with frank feedback to the administration through whitehouse.gov and other forums. We aim to act as a forceful counterweight to the inevitable pull to the right the President is already experiencing.
- YWCT is affiliated with the national group Organizing for America (OFA).
B. To engage in service activities.
- YWCT will engage in service events (those we set up ourselves, as well as ones set up by other local organizations) to make a difference in our community.
C. To act as a clearinghouse for information and work cooperatively with other groups locally.
- We will send regular updates to the people on our mailing list with information from local and national groups which share our goals. Our aim is to make it easier for our members to become more involved with the local and national political process.
- We will actively support efforts of Democracy for Tippecanoe to strengthen the local Democratic party. We will encourage our members to become more knowledgeable about, and involved in, local politics at the township, precinct, city, county and state levels.
- We will work assiduously to maintain the enthusiasm, energy, and “can do spirit” that brought us all together during the 2008 campaign.
OPERATIONS
- YWCT has a steering committee of approximately 15 people who meet monthly to plan and review activities, as well work independently or in smaller groups on YWCT projects.
- Our large and very diverse membership is simply the people on our mailing list which we are expanding to encompass all of Tippecanoe County.
- Periodic emails are sent out to members inviting them to participate in events and programs as well as asking them for their feedback and input.
- In addition to activities involving the whole group, individual members will have an opportunity to work in smaller groups on particular issues and events.
- We include in our membership those who want to participate a little or a lot. We encourage our members to forward our emails to friends, family, colleagues, and other groups.
- Although most of our members are Democrats, our organization is open to all.
