Hi Everyone -

Yesterday, I attended a volunteers’ call-out/meeting at Community Cancer Network. Five new folks there, as well as 2 of us old-timers, a board member, and a work specialist from Unity who has been advising Melinda and CCN since the organization has been reorganized. One of the new women is active in the Indian Women’s organization at Purdue. She thinks their group will be able to help LOTS.

Lots of new ideas were put forth, and Melinda was able to address some needs with which I can think we can help:

1) Clients can use nice scarves which can be used by women to wrap bare heads, and caps/hats are needed for men (they also lose hair with some treatments – even their beards! Makes sense – I just never thought of that.)

2) Books/magazines which clients might not be able to afford to buy. I’d suggest “upbeat/humorous” material, for obvious reasons.

3) Thank you notes/cards, which clients could use to thank caregivers and friends. I guess postage stamps would be appreciated as well, although we didn’t discuss that at the meeting.

4) Big/expensive items such as Ensure or Boost are always needed.

5) Paper products, cleaning products, beauty products, shampoos, soaps, adult diapers.

6) Dog/cat food. Here’s a newly identified need. Recently, a woman called who was desperate for help. She was hospitalized and the person she had arranged to feed her dog was unable to do so. Bless her heart, Melinda got the woman’s house key from her and fed her dog for several days until the woman was released from the hospital.

If you have any items you’d care to donate, you can take items directly to Melinda at the office at 2550 Greenbush (first building to the west of the original Arnett Clinic building), 446-5464. Or, contact us at yeswecantippecanoe@gmail.com and we can let you know alternative drop-off sites.

Finally, Melinda is planning a garage sale April 10 at Brown Street Methodist church. Please keep this in mind for anything you might be able to contribute. All proceeds will go to CCN.

This was a very upbeat meeting – lots of hope and energy. Love it!

My best,

Connie
